EZ Movers Inc. will use the best methods possible to protect your goods. While relocating nearly 4,000 people annually, only 3% of our local moves and 5% overall result in a damage claim, most of which are minor claims that are easily repaired or resolved. Unfortunately, despite great care, there is always a remote possibility that some damage may occur. There are different coverage options available for local and long distance moves.

Local moves

EZ Movers Inc. offers our customers two coverage options for local moves.

  • Limited Liability protection: As a licensed common carrier with the ICC, we are required to provide limited liability coverage, free of charge. In the event of damage or loss, the maximum liability of the carrier is limited to $0.30 per pound, per article.
  • Declared Value Protection: Additional coverage can be purchased through an outside agency. EZ Movers has working relationships with Baker International and movinginsurance.com which you may contact for quotes on replacement value protection. We suggest that all our clients check with their homeowners or renters insurance carriers as they may already have coverage for relocation. You may also use another third party moving insurance company of your choosing.

Long Distance Moves

According to DOT (Department of Transportation) requirements, Full Value Protection (FVP) must be included in every long distance moving estimate. FVP may be waived and replaced with another protection plan if you decide another option works best for you.

Long Distance Moves coverage options:

  • Full Value Protection (FVP): This option is automatically included in the estimation. Deductible will be $0, $500, or $1,000 depending on the estimation of the move (please see the table below for details). FVP can be waived; must be done at the time of the actual move.
  • Limited Liability Protection (LLP): Value is $0.60 per pound, per item. You must choose this option specifically on the Bill of Loading if waving FVP.
EZ Movers recommends buying additional insurance from independent companies (such as Baker International or Movinginsurance.com) since Full Value Protection is not an insurance option. For customers who chose FVP, EZ Movers’ claim department has the right to inspect, repair, or replace any damaged items when possible in place of monetary compensation. If a customer chooses to buy insurance coverage from an independent company, the customer receives monetary compensation for the amount of money they were insured. However, when a customer buys insurance, they still need to choose the Limited Liability Protection option.
