The city of Chattanooga is divided into 48 neighborhoods, supported by the various industries and the range of people that call this city home. One popular neighborhood is Ridgeside, named for its location along the slope of Missionary Ridge—which, like many locations in Tennessee, was the site of a Civil War battle. Families enjoy the welcoming atmosphere of the Avondale neighborhood, which features a large community park with baseball fields, basketball and tennis courts, a recreation center, and more.
Much of Tennessee is steeped in American architectural history, and Chattanooga is no exception. The city contains a mixture of historic and contemporary styles, with homes ranging from structures listed in the National Register of Historic Places, to new constructions and modular homes. The majority of classic and historic homes in Chattanooga are post-Victorian styles, and include Dutch Colonial, Cottage Tudor Revival, Four Square, and Italian Renaissance.
Chattanooga is home to many museums, cultural venues, and attractions. The city is the birthplace of the tow truck, and features the International Towing and Recovery Hall of Fame and Museum. Natural attractions include several caverns, Ruby Falls, and the Tennessee Riverwalk. The Chattanooga Zoo and the Tennessee Aquarium are also positive draws for the city.
