Detroit is home to 106 neighborhoods of varying communities and cultures. Downtown, Midtown and New Center are revitalized neighborhoods that are seeing an increase of young professionals. Downtown was also recently named the top neighborhood among U.S. metropolitan areas for retirees by CNN Money Magazine. Brush Park is home to many historic homes. Lafayette Park is another revitalized neighborhood which includes a 19-acre park surrounded by low-rise apartments. The Southwest of the city has recently seen improvement in the economy, spurred on by immigrant populations and the Mexicantown International Welcome Center.
Following the fall of the automotive industry, vacant properties throughout the city are plentiful, although it's reported that 86% of all city properties are in excellent condition and are in move-in condition. Because of this, bank-owned or vacant single-family homes and condominiums are easy to find and affordable. Along with the cities revitalization efforts, new luxury high-rise apartments have been recently built in the Downtown and New Center neighborhoods.
Attractions: Known as Motown and home to Motown Records, music has been the soul of Detroit since the 1940s. Hosting Broadway performances, the city's Theatre District is the second largest in the U.S. Visual artists will also be at home in Detroit, with the Detroit Institute of Art, the Museum of Contemporary Art and the College for Creative Studies. With three downtown casinos and four professional sports teams, adrenaline junkies won't have far to look.
